Web design evolves fast, but not everything new works for every business. Here is what is worth adopting this year, and what is best avoided.
Adopt: typography as the protagonist
Large, editorial headlines with generous white space communicate confidence and authority better than a design overloaded with graphic elements.
Adopt: performance as part of design
A beautiful site that takes four seconds to load has already lost a good share of its visitors before they see that design. Speed is no longer just a technical matter: it is a design decision.
Avoid: effects for fashion’s sake, with no purpose
Glassmorphism for no reason, decorative multicolour gradients, animations that compete with the content. If an effect does not help people understand or decide, it subtracts instead of adding.
Avoid: generic templates disguised as “modern”
Symmetrical layouts, pastel palettes interchangeable between any industry: they are recognisable precisely because they say nothing specific about the brand using them.
In short
The right question is not “is it fashionable?”, but “does it help my customer decide faster?”.
